How To Combat The Cold When Pregnant - Learn How To Be Extra Vigilant

Generally speaking every one of us gets a cold at least once a year, sometimes more, and for the lucky ones they can escape it. So the fact that it is quite likely that through a woman's nine month pregnancy you develop a cold should not come as a surprise.

Do not be alarmed, pregnancy in no way makes you more vulnerable to a cold virus, but when you are pregnant you will feel more tired anyway so a cold will only make you feel a lot worse than if you were not carrying a child. The common cold is perfectly harmless to the foetus whilst in development.

As unfortunately we are not at a stage in society where we yet have a cure for the common cold we can then only treat the symptoms. Some medications are perfectly safe during pregnancy, most women will wish to avoid taking them unless it is essential, so with that fact in mind let's look at some suggestions that will try and rid you of your cold virus whilst carrying that newborn of yours:

1. Fluids. Drink some fluids then drink some and so on. Every viral illness dehydrates the body. Being pregnant makes this issue ten times worse. Drink lots and lots of water, juice or fizzy drinks but try to avoid milk as often this does not coincide well with viruses,

2. Steam Inhalation. Inhaling steam for a cold virus is one of the oldest remedies out there but it works. Fill a bowel off boiling water, add a couple of drops of decongestant oil. Then sit in front of the bowel with a towel covering your head for about fifteen minutes. Steam is great way of loosening mucus in your system whilst also giving you a facial at the same time. Two for one with this method.

3. Fruit. Especially citrus fruit as it is high in vitamin C which has been proven to reduce the duration of a cold.

4. Paracetamol. In recommended doses it will bring down any fever that you are experiencing and help with any aches and pains. It is safe to take whilst pregnant at the standard adult does so do not be scared.

5. Soup.Yes strange but true. Scientific studies have showed that soup has great properties that help the cold sufferer feel better. But no one seems to know exactly what these properties are.

If you are unlucky enough to catch the flu whilst pregnant, then the above treatments would also be used for that. If you get the flu when pregnant then you are going to get the same symptoms but just on a higher scale.
