Science has made a ton of breakthroughs when it comes to parent's abilities to choose the gender of their baby. However, this does not mean that they will be available or affordable (5 digit price-tag). Although not nearly as effective, there are some more natural gender selection for baby at home methods that future parents can try in order to achieve the gender of their choice.
Timing Methods
These methods include the Shettles Method which instructs parents to have sex two to four days prior to ovulation for a girl and as close as possible to ovulation for a boy because of the survival rate of sperm. You may also use certain sexual positions to increase your chances such as deep penetrating positions for boys and shallow penetration positions for girls. The O+12 (oh plus 12) is used for conceiving a girl. O stands for ovulation and 12 stands for the number of hours you should wait to have sex. Because girl sperm lives longer and are strong swimmers, the theory is that they will outlast the male sperm and succeed in fertilizing the egg.
Diet & Supplements Methods
From taking the LP (Lydia Pinkham) herbal compound to adjusting your diet, these methods include taking supplements or eating certain foods in order to achieve your goal of having a boy or girl. For a girl eat lots of calcium and magnesium while trying to conceive. For a boy, eat lots of potassium and sodium. The supplements are supposed to alter your body chemistry thus increasing the likelihood of one sex over the other. The LP supplements in particular are great for having a girl, but do not work for having a boy. This is a common gender selection for baby method.
Astrology & Old Wive's Tales Methods
These methods use astrological signs or sayings we've all heard (craving certain foods while pregnant, experiencing morning sickness, how the baby is carried, etc) to predict a baby's gender. Some soon-to-be expecting mothers swear by astrological or other methods that have very little medical backing. The effectiveness to these techniques is debatable, but I wouldn't count on them.
All and all, these gender selection methods have variable success rates but can all be done from home without the steep monetary investment that medical intervention would cause. There are a ton of other methods that you may be interested in trying, but the list is too long to post here. If you are absolutely set on having a boy or girl specifically, seeking medical intervention is essential. However, if you are hopeful and looking for a cheaper alternative, using gender selection for baby at home methods are going to be your best bet.
